There are all kinds of ways to get involved with Nature Guelph, the easiest being to come out for our meetings or events! A passion for nature is contagious, so spread the word and bring a friend. If you are a nature lover, there is always a spot for you at Nature Guelph!
If you’d like to be more involved, consider buying an annual membership for you or your family. Members receive our bi-monthly newsletter, and occasional email updates (you may opt out if you’d like) about upcoming local nature events. Membership fees support our activities, including our regular events, kids’ programs, Ontario Nature affiliation and more. Donations above and beyond membership fees are always more than welcome, and 100% goes towards club activities.
Volunteering for Nature Guelph
Nature Guelph is entirely run by an executive committee of hard-working volunteers. These passionate individuals dedicate their time to every facet of the club, including our meetings, programs, young naturalists, newsletter, publicity, website and more. Without their time and energy, Nature Guelph would cease to be!
Positions on the executive occasionally become vacant, and those opportunities will be posted below.
There are no executive vacancies at this time, though there will be openings beginning September 2017.
Please contact Christine Bowen if you are interested at: email@example.com.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to volunteering in an executive capacity, there are many other ways you can get more involved in Nature Guelph. Our executive committee members are always looking for volunteers to help them out and we usually have a special project or two on the go that you can help us out with!
Here are some ideas for volunteer activities: Outdoor Programs Committee, Conservation Committee, Young Naturalists and Naturalists in Training programs, Community Outreach (staffing our display at various community events), and the Nature in the City program.
If you want to learn more about any of these opportunities, or have your own ideas about how you can volunteer your time and skills to support Nature Guelph, please contact Christine Bowen at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donating to Nature Guelph
Nature Guelph is a volunteer-run, registered charity, and all income we receive from memberships, kids’ program registrations and fundraising events goes directly towards our programs and activities including meetings, outdoor programs, subsidizing kids’ programs and more. Additional donations are always welcome, and help us to spread a love of nature in Guelph as widely as we can! We gratefully accept donations of any amount, and charitable receipts are available for donations of over $10.
Funds for which Nature Guelph issues receipts for Income Tax Purposes
Nature Guelph has now established three separate Funds for which receipts for income tax purposes can be issued, either through the Club or through Canada Helps. These are tracked separately in the accounting system and financial reports.
This Fund will contain donations given as general donations to the club, often at the time of membership renewal. The Fund can be used for any club-related special purpose deemed appropriate by the Executive. Examples might include improving the website, supporting a special Club event in Guelph, printing a special report.
Reinder Westerhoff Youth Education Fund
This Fund is used to support youth education, often in support of registering Guelph youth to the annual Ontario Nature camp.
Conservation and Land Stewardship Fund
This Fund will be used to support Guelph or Wellington County land conservation or stewardship actions. It could be used to support initiatives by other groups, such as rare, and in exceptional circumstances initiatives by other Ontario nature clubs or by Ontario Nature.
Donations can be made on Canada Helps (you select the fund you would like to donate to) or by cheque to Nature Guelph, PO Box 1491, Guelph, Ontario N1H 6N8. Talk to the Treasurer if you’d like to donate in another way.
Remember that there are many other ways of supporting Nature Guelph. These include not only renewing your annual membership, but also bringing in new members, supporting club activities and initiatives, volunteering for Executive positions, or in other ways.
