Nature Guelph Wildflower Meeting-Becoming a Rainger: Gardening
January 17 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
On January 17, Christine Bowen, Hamilton Bay Area Restoration Council program coordinator (and Nature Guelph executive member) will discuss stormwater management, climate change and the loss of native species. She will then guide us through one of their education programs, RAINGERS, where they build rain gardens to combat those issues.
A rain garden is a sunken garden designed to capture, absorb and filter stormwater using native plant species. Rain gardens can increase ground water filtration by about 30% when compared to a conventional patch of lawn, and thus are an important management tool for the City of Hamilton in aiding restoration efforts.
