Birds and mammals of the Falklands and sub-Antarctic islands.
David will talk about the birds of the Falklands, South Georgia, South Orkneys and the South Shetland Islands based on four seasons as a tour guide in the area.
Bio: David started bird-watching when he was eleven; his first life-list was 57 species, since expanded slightly! He’s been a member of the GFN since 1968 and has been closely associated with Long Point Bird Observatory since then. He has watched birds in all seven continents, but his favourite one is South America. By profession he is an Organic Chemist (retired). He is a Research Associate (Ornithology) at The Royal Ontario Museum and has authored or co-authored several books, including “Wrens, Dippers and Thrashers”, “Where to Watch Birds in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean”, the four volume “Canadian Atlas of Bird Banding”, three chapters in the “Handbook of the Birds of the World” and most recently “Birds New to Science; 50 years of Avian Discoveries”. He was the 2010 recipient of the “Distinguished Ornithologist Award” of the Ontario Field Ornithologists.
