Haldimand Bird Observatory at Ruthven Park, Cayuga
May 5 @ 7:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
Join birder Larry Staniforth as we visit one of the best equipped bird banding stations in Ontario. Located on the National Historical Site at Ruthven Park, the summer home of the Thompson family of newspaper fame. The park not only houses the banding station, but also has a few kilometers of walking trails which during spring migration is a magnet for birds heading north to their breeding territories. Also on the site is an expansive wildflower garden that in summer supports many varieties of butterflies. If we are extremely fortunate, we will be able to release banded birds from hand. This is also a very good opportunity to see some of these beautiful birds up close. Trails on the site range from easy to moderate.
Meet at the Wild Birds Unlimited parking lot at 951 Gordon St., Guelph at 7:00 am, where carpools will be arranged as necessary.
This event is kid-friendly, but will involve some hiking on trails. This event is NOT dog-friendly. Please dress for the weather. Bring refreshments; we will be stopping for lunch at a local restaurant along the way
Please consider making a donation at the banding station. It is through these donations that the banding station is able to run.
